The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
